Cinco Perez, a standout from Team Pittsburgh Elite Aquatics, has officially pledged to join the Panthers’ 2026 recruiting class. At the Speedo Junior National Championships last summer, he clocked personal bests in the 400 IM (19th place, 4:28.74) and the 200 IM prelims (36th place, 2:07.77). Just this March, as a junior at Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School, he secured two 5th-place finishes at the PIAA 3A State Championships, setting new bests in the 500 free (4:30.33) and the 200 IM (1:51.36).
But it was at the ISCA International Senior Cup two weeks later where Perez truly shined. In what could be described as one of the best meets of his career, he shattered his personal records in seven events: the 200 free (1:42.12), 1000 free (9:28.83), 1650 free (15:46.48), 200 IM (1:50.37), 400 IM (3:54.57), 100 back (52.38), and 200 breast (2:05.38). These times not only highlight his versatility but also position him as a key asset for Pitt’s future.
Here’s where the conversation gets controversial: While Pitt finished 10th at the 2025 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships, Perez’s times suggest he would’ve placed 38th in the 400 IM, 46th in the 500 free, and 25th in the 1650 free. Is this a sign of untapped potential, or will he need to level up significantly to compete at the ACC level? Only time will tell.
